Murcia 2007
Arrived Thursday evening, meet by Bucky and Jane at the airport, we then headed to a guy called Steve from Grimsby who lent me a lid for the weekend, then back to bucky’s for some food, then off to a local bar for coffee’s and brandy’s.
Friday am and buckys showing me around the area on his green machine, nice day [hot] Friday I meet up with some of the boys and girls [bucky, lee, ian, Jane, job, Ruth and mental mark] from the Orihuela scooter club, we were off to bar bayron in Murcia the venue for the evening, only 50 cents a drink which we took to really well. This was a quite night as most people were not turning up till Saturday morning. The beer was flowing nicely when the Spanish brought out some food [just what we needed] to soak up some of that beer, we left the bar about midnight.
Saturday morning up and with it early as had to go and pick up a scoot for the weekend, so off to grants to pick up a mark 1 p2[cheers mate] this bloke got a nice front room cant sit on the furniture as many scoots parked up in there.
So once we have picked up the scoot off to meet the other club members in Orihuela and the sky film crew who were filming the rally for British TV to show us back home about living in Spain. Once all have turned up off to meet with the Spanish clubs in Murcia, it took about an hour to get to the meeting place. Once there we parked up and went for a drink no one else had arrived there as yet. As we waited for the others we were asked to move the scoots by the local police as a religious possession was coming through the square. About 11:30 the others started to arrive [Spanish always late] so we hung about for the organiser to arrive so we could pay up the 45 euros for the rally. Which got you a goodie bag, which had a t-shirt, a cd and a local map in it.
After a while we headed off in to the mountains around Murcia for the ride out which took you on some really nice roads with cracking views, after about 50 - 60 km ride we stopped for some food and more drinks, it was like turning up to a wedding parting [not what we are used to in England] plenty of food as it was a 3 course meal with beers and wine, this bit was great as for your rally fee of 45 euros you got free food + wine, beer. As you finished your bottle or jug you hold it up and it gets refilled for you, so took full advantage of this for the afternoon,
After the meal we were taken to a strip of road the Spanish had marked up for a quarter mile dash, this was just what we needed scooter racing when you’ve had a skin full, at this point bucky took on some of the Spanish ,which he one. Mental mark took to the race but as he pulled away up went his front wheel [cracking wheelie] as he pulled his ride down slipped in to neutral as went no where. Very funny.
After the racing back to the hotel for some more drinks and a shower. Meet up with the boys again to go off to the venue for the first part of the evening, as we enter Felix [the organiser] stood there handing out the beer directing people down stairs to more food and beer [still free] at about midnight we headed of to their night club, it was in an old lock up garage, the music is alright if you’re a mod or like Austin powers.
I left the club about 0330 worse for where.
Sunday morning time to check out of the hotel and say our good buys to the Spanish we had met, the club from Madrid were great. We headed back to Buckys place, the club stopped of on the way back for more drinks, Sunday afternoon some of the club met up for a meal as I was leaving the next day.
Monday morning time to take the scoot back to grants, and then it’s of back home to the shit weather in England...
Big big thanks to Bucky, Jane, Ian, Jo, lee, Ruth, Mental mark, Steve and grant
